Fishing Report – November 4th, 2023
November 5, 2023Fishing Report – January 4th, 2024
January 3, 2024Hi friends! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving holiday! I’m really looking forward to the cooler fishing season coming up! It’s always good to get a break from the summer and fall heat. But now us anglers must change our focus a bit. Here is what we can expect out on the water!
Big spotted seatrout will invade St. Joseph Sound as they do every year. Some are already inhabiting the islands and are being caught on most trips. It should only get better as the end of the year approaches. I will be using whitebait or greenbacks and live shrimp, as well as some soft artificial lures. Trout are one of the most cooperative fish we have in winter time, and are great at the table! There will be some sheepshead, pompano, and ladyfish also caught while trout fishing.
Redfish will also continue to be around through the winter. They feed predominantly on crustaceans, so live shrimp are always a go-to bait for reds. Pinfish also work very well as they are often most prevalent on the flats where the redfish forage. Some days we will be pitching shrimp under the docks and pulling out reds. Other days we may be moving from pothole to pothole on the expansive flats while floating shrimp under a cork and catching them with that method. It always depends on the conditions and sight ability.
Snook will take a break through the colder winter months, and I usually don’t focus on trying to catch them until the waters warm up in spring. Although we typically hook a few while fishing for other species. Snook are the most affected gamefish when colder temperatures settle in over the next few months.
There will be plenty of action through the holidays and into spring! Please don’t hesitate to call 727-365-7560 and book your trip while your family is in town or during holiday breaks! Should be a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to seeing all of you on the boat very soon!
Let’s go fishing!
